Birch Creek Farms Ltd

There aren't as many bison farms as there are cattle, and here's your chance to visit an operational bison farm.

Birch Creek Farms started in 1958 as a mixed production farm with dairy, hogs, and grain. In the early 70’s the dairy was sold and we concentrated on hogs, running a farrow to finish operation until 2013. Since then we have been custom feeding finishing hogs as well as expanding the bison herd.

Bison was added to our operations in 1997, growing every since. Last year we built a commercial kitchen and a small storefront to sell bison meat rather than selling live animals.

The Experience

You will learn about the connection between land and food in the grocery stores, and put a face to the farmers producing food you purchase in sotres. You will also learn about bison life cycles, what they eat, and their characteristics.

  • Bison pasture wagon tours
  • Hands on meat processing displays - take a turn at the meat grinder, sausage stuffer and more!
  • Meet Fred - our orphan bottle fed calf
